Congratulations to YW Brooklyn LEAD Class of 2021!
After another successful year of YWCA Brooklyn’s college access and leadership program during a particularly challenging time, we are thrilled to announce that all of our high school seniors graduated and were accepted to four-year colleges, including Gettysburg College, Hartwick College, St. Francis College, St. Joseph’s College and Wells College, as well as a variety of CUNY and SUNY schools. We are incredibly proud of all of the girls in the program for their hard work to stay on track to earn their high school diplomas and prepare for their college experience. You can see where all the girls are headed this fall below.
Last month, to celebrate the high school seniors’ graduation and achievements, we held our annual Passing the Torch ceremony and were joined by current YW Brooklyn LEAD college students, the YW Brooklyn LEAD Alumni Council, actor, singer, writer and activist Diamond Essence White, and YWCA Brooklyn staff and supporters.
The YW Brooklyn LEAD program also reached a huge milestone this year, with four students from our very first program cohort graduating from their four-year college programs, including from Binghamton University, Hofstra University Montclair State University and NYU, while the remaining two students are currently completing their longer term BS/MS and BS/MD advanced degree programs.
As the next generation of leaders and the inaugural college graduates of the program, the young women are now role models to their younger peers, whether they are still working towards their bachelor's or graduate degrees, will be entering college in the fall, or just starting the college inquiry process, inspiring them to meet their educational goals.
