Equal Pay in NYS!

The pay gap affects ALL women and we’re asking NYS to prioritize equal pay for all!

Equal pay advocates and Governor Cuomo as he signed legislation equal pay laws to prohibit unequal pay on the basis of a protected class for all substantially similar work (S5248B/A8093A), and forbids employers from asking prospective employees about their salary history (S6549/A5308B). Governor Cuomo also called on U.S. Soccer to pay the women's national team the same as the men's national team. The Governor signed the measures, a key component of his 2019 Women's Justice Agenda, at the ticker-tape parade celebrating the world champion U.S. Women's Soccer Team. These actions build on common sense measures championed by the Governor this year, including rape shield protections for victims of sex trafficking, enhancing workplace sexual harassment laws and funding a community college program that will help single moms move out of poverty.

We continue to joined community partners for an #EqualPayDay rally each year with the purpose of prioritizing Salary History Law to ban on salary history – a practice that often leads to gender-based wage discrimination. Women, and especially women of color, historically earn lower salaries than men and relying on salary history leaves women at a significant disadvantage throughout their careers.

Many members of the community came out each year to voice their support for prioritizing equal pay legislation alongside the Black Latino Asian Caucus, the Women’s Caucus, Public Advocate Jumaane Williams, Attorney General Tish James, the Governor’s Office, Lieutenant Governor Kathy Hochul, councilman Donovan Richards and more.
