YWCA Brooklyn and Citizens' Third Annual Women's History Month Partnership
In March 2023, YWCA Brooklyn continued our partnership with Citizens for the third year in a row to introduce the girls and young women in our YW Brooklyn LEAD program to professional women of color’s college-to-career journeys and gain financial literacy during Women’s History Month. Citizens’ valuable contributions included employee volunteerism and a generous donation to support the YW Brooklyn LEAD program.
Citizens employees Matrea Thomas, Multi-Site Assistant Branch Manager; Naima Sultana, Citizens Banker; Saleena Kalra, Business Support Manager; and Ruby Chambliss, CRE Portfolio Manager, Senior Vice President volunteered their time to participate in a career panel discussion for girls in our YW Brooklyn LEAD program. Our participants learned about the variety of careers they can aspire to in the financial sector, who the Citizens employees’ female role models were when they were in high school and which women influenced them, their own college-to-career journeys, and how their career trajectory led to them obtaining their current position at Citizens Bank.
Additionally, Citizens also provided a financial literacy workshop entitled Increasing the Value of your Money. We were once again joined by Ruby Chambliss, who led the workshop to teach the participating girls and young women how investing helps meet financial goals and builds wealth over time, how investments are regulated, and how investments can be impacted by economic and business cycles, and about research and evaluate investment vehicles and resources.
We are grateful for Citizens’ continued partnership this year and their employees’ dedication to the economic empowerment of girls and young women of color!
