Congratulations to Another Cohort of English Language Learners
Congratulations to all our English learners on your incredible journey! Every year YWCA Brooklyn welcomes women from all backgrounds into our free ESOL courses held at our building in Brooklyn. Classes are taught for women by our longtime teacher Lauren John. This year we had a lovely time celebrating the many women who successfully completed our ESOL courses - their dedication and hard work truly paid off. We celebrate your achievements and commend your perseverance in learning a new language. Thanks to Kate Selengia, Executive Director of Bloom Again Brooklyn, and her team for making the day more special for our English learners.
Through our ESOL course, we strive to incorporate real world experiences where the women participants have a chance to learn about the community, while working on their language skills. Lauren John took the students to Urban Glass in Brooklyn for a tour of the glass studios as one of these excursions. They learned about the process of glass blowing and the types of tools used. Students also participated in learning through art at the Brooklyn Museum’s “We Speak Art” program.
Registration is open on a rolling basis for our next cohort. Our ESOL Intensive Course for English Language Learners is a 6-week course, and all students who complete the full course will receive a $100 gift card at the graduation celebration. To sign up today, please email esol@ywcabklyn.org.
