#16Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence

#16Days

The 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence is an annual campaign from November 25, International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, to December 10, Human Rights Day. This international campaign is a call to action to prevent and eliminate gender-based violence (GBV). The Mayor's Office to End Domestic and Gender-Based Violence (ENDGBV) and the NYC Commission on Gender Equity (CGE), which sits under the Mayor's Office of Equity & Racial Justice (MOERJ), co-lead the NYC campaign in collaboration with YWCA Brooklyn and other partner organizations and city agencies. The campaign recognizes how multiple forms of discrimination overlap and calls to end GBV against all people.

Get Involved:

  • Support, listen, and believe survivors.

  • Wear orange on Monday, November 25, and post on social media using the hashtags: #NYCAgainstGBV and #OrangeTheWorld. Also, look out for city buildings and landmarks lit orange in honor of the campaign.

  • Host an event to prevent and end GBV. Share the event via social media with the above hashtags.

  • Use and share the campaign toolkit with your networks and amplify the city's social media campaign.
