YW LEADers Celebrated in Annual Passing of the Torch Ceremony

This month, we welcomed our 2024 graduating high school seniors from the YW Brooklyn Lead program to our annual Passing of the Torch Ceremony. It’s our chance to honor accomplishments, celebrate graduation and gather in excitement over plans to attend college in the fall. Introductory Remarks were given by Dr. Terry-Ann Lawrence, a YW Brooklyn LEAD Alumni, and the Message for the Seniors speech was delivered by special guest speaker Jasmin Chitrakar, the Chief Accounting Officer, Finance & Accounting Madison International Realty. YW Brooklyn LEAD 2024 High School Senior Shuang Pierre-St Surin gave the closing remarks. The girls received a pin and diploma for completing the YW Brooklyn LEAD Program and marking the start of their lifelong journey as YW LEADers. They celebrated alongside family, YWCA Brooklyn staff and volunteers.

The YW Brooklyn LEAD girls college access and leadership development program is a comprehensive, year-round curriculum dedicated to advancing educational outcomes and economic empowerment.

We are grateful to our donors, volunteers who generously donated their time and, and to our sponsors including Citizens Bank, who gifted college shower items to the young women. Prospective students that are interested in the YW Brooklyn LEAD Program may apply here.

Congratulations to the Class of 2024!
